What Google Ad Grants Is and Who Qualifies

Google Ad Grants gives eligible nonprofits $10,000 a month in free advertising on Google Search. When someone searches for volunteering, donating or help for their family, your text ad can appear at the top. Many organizations never hear about it. Six facts, before anything else.

$10,000 a Month in Search Ads

The grant covers text ads on Google Search. Google counts it in US dollars. It is not cash: you cannot withdraw it, only spend it on ads.
A drone delivers a glowing gift capsule to two fluff-cloud creatures, showing that nonprofits do not pay Google for Ad Grants

You Do Not Pay Google

There is no minimum spend. Unused money does not carry over, so each month is its own $10,000. How much you can use depends on how many people search for your cause.

Who Qualifies: Charities and Nonprofits

Canada: CRA-registered charities and federal or provincial nonprofits. US: 501(c)(3) organizations. Google verifies every applicant through Goodstack.

Who Does Not Qualify

Government bodies, hospitals and health care organizations, schools and universities. Their charitable foundations and philanthropic arms can qualify.

Our Fee Is Not Paid From the Grant

The grant cannot be spent on an agency. Our fee comes from your organization’s own funds.

Google Ad Grants Management Plans and What Each One Includes

A flat monthly fee, shown here because you should not have to ask for it. Ad Grants lives or dies on the page an ad leads to, so page work comes free with a 3-month plan, and more of it with a 6-month plan. What Is Included in the Google Ad Grants Setup

Setup is free on a 3-month plan. On a month-to-month plan it costs $350 once. Six things it covers:

The application — we prepare and submit your application to the Google Ad Grants program.

Status check with Goodstack — Google verifies your organization’s status through Goodstack, usually in 3–5 business days.

The ad account — opened under your organization’s name, with the grant connected.

Conversion tracking — set up before any ad runs. Google requires at least one conversion a month, so we decide with you what counts: a donation, a volunteer form, a call-back request.

Sitelinks — the extra links under your ad. Google requires at least two; we add them at the start.

Campaigns in English and French — built around your programs, with ads written in both languages.

Keeping the grant

How We Keep Your Google Ad Grant Active

Getting the grant is one step. Keeping it is the work. Google sets rules for the account and can deactivate an account that breaks them. The rules in plain language, and what we do about each:

5% click-through rate, every month

Google wants at least 5 of every 100 views of your ads to end in a click, counted across the whole account, not per keyword. Two months in a row below 5% can lead Google to temporarily deactivate it. We watch the number, so you do not find out from a Google email.

At least one conversion a month

Google needs to see that the ads lead somewhere: a form, a donation, a signup. Tracking is set up before launch and checked so it keeps counting.

Bids aimed at conversions

Campaigns must use bidding built for conversions, such as Maximize conversions. We set them up this way from the start.

At least two sitelinks

The extra links under your ad. The Essential plan has two, the minimum. Growth and Impact have four or more.

Precise geography

The ads must be aimed at the places you actually serve. We set the target areas with you, not “the whole world” by default.

A Gift From Us: Know Which Campaign Brought Each Form Submission

Most organizations can see that a form came in. What they cannot see is which campaign brought it. Three things fix that:

Ad click
Donation
Volunteer

Our gift: installed at no cost, it shows which campaign each form submission came from. Not a default WordPress feature.

Already Have Google Ad Grants? Six Questions to Check Your Account

Answer these about your own account. Cannot answer one of them? That gap is the thing to look at first, and we go through it with you on the call. If the account has been deactivated, bring it along too.

Is your account’s click-through rate below 5%? If it has been below for two months running, Google can deactivate the account.

Are conversions being counted? Google requires at least one a month, and without tracking you cannot tell what the ads do.

Does one keyword spend most of the budget? That can mean the ads work for one narrow search, and the rest of your cause is invisible.

Do you have at least two sitelinks? Google requires them.

Is the geography precise? Ads should target the places you serve, not an entire country by default.

Who owns the account? It should be your organization, not an agency login.

Our advantages

Who Runs Your Google Ad Grants Account

You work with a specialist at a Google Partner agency, not a ticket queue.

A 3MY Google Ads specialist at her workstation with Google Ads dashboards, two fluff-cloud creatures watching the campaign charts

A Google Partner agency

3MY is an official Google Partner, a status Google re-checks every day against real account performance.

A specialist with 15 years

One specialist with 15 years in Google Ads runs your account. We run ads for law firms, a clinic, a fence manufacturer and an event company, and Ad Grants works by the same logic: searches, conversions, ads that answer the question.

English and French

Ads in both languages are in every plan. We are in Montreal and work with organizations across Canada and the US.

What We Do Not Promise About Google Ad Grants

Some agencies promise approval or no risk of suspension. We do not, and here is why.

We cannot promise approval. Google decides on applications. We prepare the application properly and handle the process, but the decision belongs to Google.

We cannot promise you will never lose the grant. Google can deactivate an account that breaks the program rules, sometimes without notice. We monitor the rules in every plan, but we cannot remove the risk.

We cannot promise a 5% CTR. It is Google’s condition, not a result anyone can guarantee. We keep the account working toward it and watch the number.

We cannot promise you will use all $10,000. It depends on how many people search for your cause, and no one can create searches that do not exist.

Google Ad Grants Management FAQ

In Canada, registered charities and federal or provincial nonprofits; in the US, organizations with 501(c)(3) status. Government bodies, hospitals and health care organizations, schools and universities do not qualify, but their foundations can. Google decides every application.

No. There is no minimum spend, and unused money does not carry over to the next month.

A 3-month plan gets you free setup and the free page work in your plan; a 6-month plan gets you more pages. Month-to-month works too: setup is then $350 once. If you end the plan early, the pages we have already built are billed at our regular rates, and the same $350 applies to setup. If you go, the account, its history and the pages stay with you.

A group of related services or programs. Volunteering is one campaign, donations are a second, services for families a third. So the campaign count in each plan goes further than it first looks.

No. The grant can only be spent on Google ads, not on an agency. Our fee is paid from your organization’s funds.

Yes. We start with the six questions above and look at what is working before changing anything.

Bring it to the call. We look at what Google flagged and tell you what can be done. We cannot promise a result.

They are for WordPress sites, where we do the work ourselves. If your site runs on something else, we look at what it is built on and agree what we can do. Tracking itself we can always set up, through GA4 or Google Tag Manager.

No. Ad Grants covers text ads on Google Search only.

Yes. We work with organizations across Canada and the US.

Usually 2–4 weeks from application to the first impressions. Most of it is Google’s review: the Goodstack status check takes 3–5 business days, sometimes up to 14, and Ad Grants about 3 more. We build the campaigns while we wait.
